Section 3: Registering Your Domain Name

Disclaimer: The information provided is for educational purposes only and does not constitute professional advice.

You’ll need a domain, which is the website address that starts with "www." For example: www[dot]YourSite[dot]com.

*Depending* on the host or platform you go with, you may or may not need to buy a domain from a registrar like the ones we will mention. Some platforms allow you to buy a domain directly from them. Just check with them :)

You can purchase your domain from a registrar such as Porkbun, NameCheap, or NameSilo. You'd just need to set DNS records to connect the domain to your site, but it's quick and straightforward, plus the registrar support people can help you!

By the way, a sub-domain is free but your address would not be your own. It would look something like this: www[dot]YourSite[dot]Host[dot]com.

You’ll also need domain privacy (WHOIS protection), which protects your personal info from being exposed in the WHOIS database, which basically means your info will be publicly shown on the internet. All three registrars above automatically include free WHOIS protection in the purchase.

🌸 Please check with your host (if you're buying directly) if there is WHOIS protection included or someone could look up your site in the WHOIS database and see your home address and other personal info.

🌻 Tip: If you’re looking to start a profitable blog or have a professional website for your business, I recommend going with a paid custom domain because it’s more professional. Also, with free site plans, you're typically not allowed to display ads, which can limit earning potential.
