Section 8: Do You Need a VPN?

โ€Disclaimer: The information provided is for educational purposes only and does not constitute professional advice.

โ€
A VPN is a Virtual Private Network that encrypts your connection to the internet and keeps 3rd parties from getting your data such as credit card numbers and passwords. It also allows you to use the internet privately and hides your IP address, preventing those like hackers, websites, ad companies, government censorship, your service provider, etc. from spying on you.

๐ŸŒท Basically, a VPN protects your privacy, but does *not* protect against viruses or malware.
โ€
For example, if youโ€™re someone who tends to use your laptop in public places like coffee shops, libraries, airports, getting a VPN is appropriate since Public Wi-Fi is not secure and hackers can easily steal your info. But if youโ€™re using your home internet on a password-protected Wi-Fi, a VPN may not be needed.

It all depends on your preferences and needs. There are lots of VPN providers out there and I am not an expert but from my personal research, I like Mullvad - it's a privacy-focused VPN located in Sweden and has a no-logs policy. IVPN and Windscribe also seem like good options.
