If youโre going to go with a Wordpress site, it's good for the theme to meet these requirements:
โ
๐ธ Responsive: this means that your site is compatible in mobile, tablet & desktop views
๐ธ Fast
๐ธ SEO-friendly
๐ธ Clean code: this makes sure the theme is compatible with your plugins and it also prevents bloat (which slows down your site)
๐ธ โRegular updates: the theme must be up-to-date with the latest Wordpress version
๐ธ Good support
๐ธ Compatible with website builders (depending on which one you use - there are good builders such as Beaver Builder, which is a free to download. Gutenberg is the default ย Wordpress page builder)
There are free and paid WordPress themes. If you pick a free one, I'd be careful to choose from a trusted site. Also, paid themes tend to get updated more and come with support and richer features. You can find free themes in the WordPress Repository, but I would check reviews to see how often it gets updated; outdated themes and plugins are one of the biggest reasons sites get hacked.
โ
Here is my favorite Wordpress Theme (that works with Gutenberg & Beaver Builder):โ
โ
โ๐ท GeneratePress: very clean, simple, lightweight & fast
- Pros: SEO-friendly, good free version
- Cons: slight learning curve, free version does not have pre-made templates
๐ป Tip: 'Generate Blocks' plugin works well with GeneratePress if you prefer Gutenberg style, but if you prefer visual design, I recommend Beaver Builder.
Kadence is another great theme. It's beginner-friendly and has a very good free version that you can download directly from the Wordpress Repository. You can use Kadence Blocks to build it.
